v10.5: New logo, same mission

Announcements

  • A brand-new logo. We always wanted to hide a little "play" button in the negative space between our three colored disks. This release, we finally pulled it off. Same Download Helper you trust, fresh face. Hope you like it :)
  • Get videos in the language you actually want. A new settings section lets you pick your preferred audio track and subtitle languages. On sites that offer multi-lingual media, you get the right version the first time.
  • More streaming sites, smoother captures. We\'ve reworked our streaming engine to handle more live and streaming websites, more reliably. If a site gave you trouble before, give it another shot.

v10.1

  • You can now set a dedicated download directory for Video Download Helper media (in settings), but also per website (via smartnaming).

v10.0

  • This update is a significant update: Video Download Helper is a browser extension. And because of browsers limitations, it has always relied on a Companion App. In this update, I managed to remove the need for a native application 🙌. The extension is now self-contained and does not require an additional application. This improves security, privacy and makes the extension update process a lot easier.
  • You should should not see any change in behavior. If anything, the downloads are significantly faster (downloads now take advantage of the browser cache) and are more likely to succeed.
  • ⚠️⚠️⚠️The download folder has changed! Your videos are now downloaded to your browser's download folder. You can change the download folder in your browser settings.⚠️⚠️
  • 'Download As' shows the save dialog after the download completed: sadly, this is a browser limitation. But, you can easily rename the file before download just by clicking on its name, or click the "pen" button.
  • Where is the 'Convert to' option: converting requires quite a lot of resources (transcoding), and this feature was barely ever used by our users. I decided to not backport this feature from the Companion App into the extension. But the extension supports downloading into MKV, MP4, MP3 and M4A formats, without any quality drop.>/li>
